“The band shaped who I became. We wanted to make sure that sense of connection and pride endures for the students of tomorrow.” For Ann Scott Prock ’75, the Miami University Marching Band was more than just a musical ensemble—it was the heartbeat of her college experience. As a trumpet player, Ann found more than just a place to perform; she found a community built on discipline, camaraderie, and a shared sense of pride that resonated long after her final halftime show.

Ann ScottA recent return to campus brought those decades-old memories vividly back to life. Walking the familiar paths of Oxford, Ann saw reflections of her own journey in today’s students. While the band has evolved, the core spirit—the unmistakable sense of belonging—remains unchanged.

During her visit, Ann met with Dr. Ryan Fisher, Dean of the College of Creative Arts, and Dr. Ryan Yahl, Director of Athletic Bands. Their conversations revealed a program that is growing in scale and ambition, from expanded performance schedules to new travel opportunities. However, with that growth comes a greater need for sustained support.

Inspired by the profound impact the band had on her life, Ann and her husband, Jim, decided to ensure that future generations of MUMB have the same transformative opportunities.

Through a thoughtful gift in their trust, they established the Ann and Jim Prock Marching Band Fund. This planned gift serves as a permanent investment in the traditions and relationships forged on the field, ensuring that the music—and the community it creates—never stops playing.
